Headaches are one of the most common complaints that chiropractic patients have. Headache pain may be from any one or more of a variety of issues, but many are considered to be “cervicogenic,” that is they are caused by problems with the muscles, joints and other structures in the neck and shoulders. When aggravated, these problem areas cause pain to travel to the head, resulting in a headache. Chiropractic care has proven to be beneficial in reducing the frequency, duration and intensity of headaches.
Chiropractors care starts with a diagnosis of the type of headache you have. Next an appropriate management plan is developed which may include adjustments, physiotherapeutic modalities, soft tissue therapy, and/or nutritional therapies. Remember that in rare cases, headaches can be a sign of something more serious, so it’s important to have your headache diagnosed.
